UW-Fox Valley’s new Communication Arts Center is slated to be one of the first academic buildings in the UW System to earn LEED® Certification. The facility houses a 361-seat academic-grade theater, five classrooms, a 2,000-square-foot art gallery, five offices that include a box office and scene shop office, and an area suitable for outdoor activities.
Sustainable features include rooftop gardens to manage storm water, carbon dioxide sensors that monitor the number of people in the facility, flow-metered faucets in all bathrooms that run on self-sustaining rechargeable batteries, 17 designated prime parking spaces for alternative fuel vehicles, the upgrade and relocation of a 1-acre storm water detention pond, and the planting of 74 trees around the building. The project is Seeking LEED Silver certification.
