St. John’s Hospital Surgery Expansion & In-Patient Tower Renovation

St. John’s Hospital (SJH) is embarking on a 285,600 SF expansion and renovation of its existing campus. The 700-bed hospital is already the largestof 13 hospitals within the Hospital Sisters Health System, the largest in downstate Illinois, and one of the largest Catholic hospitals in the United States.

The multi-phased project includes relocating various departments that will be affected by the renovation of an existing 5-story hospital wing. Program areas incorporated in St. John’s project include 16 Operating Rooms and support space, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, satellite pharmacy, Central Sterile Processing department and an additional 21,585 SF of space for a future Emergency department expansion. In addition to the main surgery project described above, St. John’s will also undertake an expansion and renovation of the current Patient Tower. This renovation is required to convert as many semi-private rooms into private spaces to provide a better healthcare environment for their patients and families.
