Paul Olson Elementary School was planned with sustainable design as a driving force from the projects inception. Everything from the site selection through design, construction and the facility operation was carefully thought out with a goal of attaining a LEED Silver certification for the project.

A few of the green building aspects of this facility are as follows: alternative transportation, site development, reflective roofing, light pollution, optimized water and energy performance, construction waste management, regional materials, certified wood, indoor air quality management, daylighting, and views. This project incorporates a geothermal heating/cooling system, and solar panels which are not only used to reduce utility costs, but also serve as a teaching aid for the students. Miron developed comprehensive waste management, indoor air quality plans and selected regional materials to maximize the LEED credits in these areas. These efforts exceeded the minimum guidelines for LEED which enabled the project to achieve extra credits in these areas.
